                     Potter-Thomas’s Cell Phone Policy

This policy is shared as follows:

  • Potter Thomas’s School Website
Send home with students Back to School packet
Reviewed with classes during Town Hall
Reviewed with classes by Advisory/Homeroom Teachers
Posted in Main Office and All Classrooms

Per the SDP, student cell phones are not allowed inside schools.  At Potter, we understand parents and guardians wanting children to have cell phone access for transition to and from school.

To support such, the following must be followed:

  • Cell phones and all phone technology including but not limited to (Airpods and Smartwatches)  must be turned off and put away upon entering the school.
  • Students are not allowed to engage in cell phone use during the school day.

Students will be asked to turn over their cell phones by the Advisory/Homeroom Teacher.

CELL PHONE EXPECTATION:

During Community Meeting, students will be expected to turn in their cell phones to the teacher. Students will put their cell phones and any other nonschool related technology into their preassigned bag. The student will then put their bag into a bin. The teacher will lock the bin in the classroom closet.

CELL PHONE INFRACTION EXPECTATIONS:

Teacher contacts the main office and reports a cell phone infraction.

Climate Support Staff or Dean of Students picks up the cell phone from the student.

Cell phone/device is labeled and locked in the Dean of Students closet for safe keeping.

Cell phone is returned at the end of the day after dismissal.

Phone call with mandatory parent meeting to retrieve cell phone.

NOTE:  TEACHERS DO NOT TAKE A PHONE FROM A STUDENT.
